Saturday January 8th will mark the 15th annual Timberwolves Shootout and we are excited to announce that this will be our first year covering the event. The Shootout has been an underrated event in past years that has featured 23 NBA players including Josh Smith, Kevin Love, DeMarcus Cousins, Jrue Holiday, and many more.
The event hasn't had quite the national star power in recent years, but they have still brought in excellent regional talent and this year will be no exception. Benilde-St.Margaret's High School (MN) will be facing off against Onalaska High School (WI) in the first game that we will be covering. Benilde-St. Margaret's is led by four juniors in Isaiah Zierden, Kyle Washington, Sanjay Lumpkin, and Will Dunn. Onalaska is led by Nick Arenz.
Next up will be an intriguing matchup between Josh Oglesby of Cedar Rapids Washington High School (IA) and Ross Travis of Chaska High School (MN). Both are future Big Ten players and will be seeing plenty of each other in the coming years. Oglesby, an Iowa signee, is a heady and skilled player who is most known for his shooting ability, while Travis, a Penn State signee, is more known for his athleticism and versatility. Other notable players in this game include Jake White of Chaska, who is committed to Wichita State, and Wesley Washpun for Washington.
Headlining the event will be Marcus Paige of Linn-Mar High School (IA). Linn-Mar will be facing off against Apple Valley High School (MN). We were looking forward to seeing Paige match up against arguably the top point guard in the 2014 class in Tyus Jones, but unfortunately he is expected to be sidelined from a kidney injury that he suffered in their first game of the season. Thomas Schalk, a William & Mary commitment, is having a great season and will lead the way for Apple Valley. Other notable players in this game include Matt Bohannon, who is committed to Northern Iowa, and Shane Benton, who is committed to North Dakota. Both play for Linn-Mar.
